Following a year of COVID enforced hiatis, it was a great return to System Wars – Carnival of the Brew on Saturday.
The inimitable Hendo was again a great host and proved his versatility and wealth of knowledge in the homebrew and pro brewing spheres.
We like to keep things changing and this year, we introduced a range of side-show briefings involving presentations from Ruth Barry with Bugs on screen, Derek from Bluestone Yeast on making a yeast starter, Daniel and Sarmi from Monash University BrewLab on the Chemistry of the Boil and our friend Helen Hewson on Dry Hopping.
The main event though is the brewers. Attendees had a stack of fun chatting to brewers from Hop Nation, MoonDog, Bojak Brewing, Stomping Ground, Red Hill, Co-Conspirators, Frexi and Monash Brewlab along with Geoff Hammond on his fabulous RIMS system.
Grant from Nice Guys brewed a Kolsch on the 500 Braumeister which is now available as a Fresh Wort Kit.
Paella and Churros were enjoyed along with beers from the Tinny bar.
Dave from Vegout provided multiple cider making demonstrations throughout the day on the Speidel Apple Mill and Hydropress.
Thanks to all of the presenters and attendees and especially to Geoff, Matt, Steve and Ben of Grain and Grape for pulling it together.
All beers (and 1 cider) will now be brewed ready for our famous tasting day on Saturday 26th June.
Enjoy Good Beer Week!
